  • PRODUCER:

    Compañía Licorera de Nicaragua

  • REGION:

    Chichigalpa, Nicaragua

  • AGING:

    30 Years

An expensive bottle of rum, but it’s also quite delicious. It doesn’t read as overly oaky with an abundance of tannins, which can happen from too many years spent in a barrel. Instead, there are deep notes of tropical fruit and cocoa on the nose, with swirls of burnt brown sugar and a bit of cherry and orange on the palate.

Ron Centenario 30 Años produces an overall tasting effect that is harmonious, integrated and delectable.

Considering the minimal supply of this rum, you might not run into it very easy.

Pull the broad gold cap and hear a natural cork pop with excitement, releasing a bouquet of sweet brown sugar and aged oaken vanilla.

The floral sweet bouquet makes an impressive introduction, the rum’s appearance in my tasting glass – a dark walnut brown color and tremendous number of beads forming at the top of the swirl smear– enhances its image.  The drops soon combine to form slowly dripping thin legs, but a few never return to the rum in the bowl, leaving more rum exposed for aromatic indulgence.  With a healthy sniff, more dense aromas of vanilla, oak, nutmeg, toffee, milk chocolate caramel and oily nuts appear, then come lesser notes of buttery flour pastry.

Upon first sipping. the rum strikes your tongue as creamy and incredibly smooth, palate coating, tasting as if it has achieved full maturity.  No doubt the sugar adds a significant mass to the body and the lingering, toffee-like finish.  Ron Centenario 30 Años produces an overall tasting effect that is harmonious, integrated and delectable.

About the Producer

Flor de Caña (Spanish for "sugarcane flower") is a brand of premium rum manufactured and distributed by Compañía Licorera de Nicaragua which is headquartered in Managua, Nicaragua and dates back as far as 1890.

Flor de Caña is made by Compañía Licorera de Nicaragua, S.A, (CLNSA) and dates back to 1890. The company originally sought to develop a large sugarcane plantation and built the first distillery in Chichigalpa (about 120 km from Managua) at the base of the San Cristóbal Volcano.

In 1875, Alfredo Francisco Pellas Canessa immigrated from Genoa, Italy to Nicaragua, and founded the San Antonio Mill in 1890, one of the oldest and largest sugar mills in the country. Younger rums were produced here to celebrate the sugarcane harvest, and a small quantity of aged rums were produced for the mill proprietors.

Compañia Licorera de Nicaragua (CLN) was founded in 1937 in Chichigalpa, Nicaragua, and became the distilling operation for San Antonio, producing aged rum on a large scale. The distillery Chichigalpa has been independently owned and operated by the Pellas Family for five generations. The company is currently run by Carlos Pellas, President and CEO of Compañia Licorera de Nicaragua.
