Manzanares Yellow Spirits is one of the most iconic alcoholic beverages in Colombia, not only because it is considered one of the oldest liquors of this type produced in the national territory, but also because of its unmistakable color and characteristic flavor.
The history of this flagship product of the Caldas Liquor Industry (ILC) dates to 1885 with Don Camilo Jiménez. The first person who dared to manufacture this type of drink for sale.
Jiménez was a farmer from the municipality of Manzanares (Caldas) who became known for selling such striking liquor, which he used to distribute on the main streets of the town and in the surrounding towns through barrels that were transported by a mule.
There is also an explanation behind its unique yellow color. Being produced by hand, the drink did not reach 100% purity throughout the process, so it was not completely transparent.
The recipe and brand Aguardiente de Manzanares grew so much that it was purchased by the Caldas Liquor Industry in 1905. Since then, the company maintains and sustains each of the aspects that make this liquor authentic that Caldas people usually associate with the tone of the rays of the sun and that have always distinguished it from many other spirits.
Throughout its history, the ILC has repeated on several occasions that the story behind this product is not an invention, but rather it is precisely that memory that makes it unique and special.
