Benriach The Smoky Ten Speyside Single Malt Scotch 750 ML

  • PRODUCER:

    The Benriach Distillery

  • REGION:

    Speyside, Scotland

  • AGING:

    10 Years

In the early 1970s, Benriach broke convention in Speyside by returning to distilling batches of whisky in the old, 19th century style, using malted barley smoked with Highland peat. This wood rich Highland peat imparts distinctly sweet and smoky notes into Benriach peated whiskies. Benriach The Smoky Ten has been crafted from a combination of unpeated and peated spirit and three casks matured for at least ten years in a combination of bourbon barrels, Jamaican rum casks and toasted virgin oak.

The whisky is then expertly married together to create sublimely smooth layers of sunripe fruit, aromatic smoke and toasted oak spice, lingering into the perfectly balanced sweet and smoky finish.

The Smoky Ten from Benriach's core range launched in 2020 shows off the distillery's skill at working with peated malt. Master blender Dr. Rachel Barrie and her team created this expression using whisky matured in bourbon barrels, toasted virgin oak casks and Jamaican rum casks, building a delicious flavor profile of ripe fruit and creamy spices to support the peaty wafts at its core.

About the Producer

John Duff duly established Benriach Distillery in 1898 just south of Elgin complete with a siding connecting it directly to the great North of Scotland Railway. But Benriach was forced to close in 1900 and remained closed until 1965 and whilst its traditional floor maltings continued to operate complete with the pagoda roof over the malt kiln it too finally closed in 1999.

Having re-opened in 2004 the Benriach range is now extensive and features age expressions beginning with Benriach 10 years, 16-Year-Old and vintage cask releases running back to the 1970s. The distillery is owned by Brown Forman of America.

A Unique Heritage

The Benriach Distillery was founded in 1898 and although the rough-hewn walls of the warehouses may seem unassuming, they are home to a rare breed of creative expertise in whisky distilling and eclectic cask maturation. Our ingenious and dedicated team spend their days crafting our award-winning Speyside single malts and tirelessly pushing the limits of flavour possibility. We are proud to say we haven’t reached them yet.
