The Angel’s Envy 11th Cask Strength release has arrived. The 2022 Edition is made from some of the most distinctive barrels in the distiller rickhouse and aged for up to 14 additional months in port wine casks, it’s one of the most popular and critically acclaimed whiskey collections.

These special barrels bring forward distinct characteristics in the whiskey, giving each expression of ANGEL’S ENVY Cask Strength a unique nose, palate and finish.

Previous ANGEL’S ENVY Cask Strength releases have been highly acclaimed and awarded by reviewers, experts, and journalists across the industry; most recently, the 2021 edition received a Double Gold from The San Francisco World Spirits Competition, a Gold from Fred Minnick’s ASCOT Awards and 92 points from the Ultimate Spirits Challenge.

Tasting Notes:

A dark amber, red bourbon with a creamy, indulgent flavor. Notes of caramel, brown sugar, and fruit.

Nose: Begins with hints of leather, brown sugar, and caramel, followed by crème brûlée, marshmallow, green apple, and citrus orange.

Palate: Apples, caramel, and brown sugar. The creaminess pairs with orange from the nose, creating a dessert-like richness. Vanilla, toasted oak and black pepper spice round it out.

Finish: Slight fruitiness and grape tannic notes with a lingering spice.

On July 9th in 2013, three generations of Hendersons came together to break ground on the new distillery. It was one of Lincoln’s final events with Angel’s Envy, and we’re proud that he was able to help usher in the next chapter of the brand.

Angel’s Envy opened its doors in 2016 in downtown Louisville and now you have the opportunity experience the first full-production urban distillery on Main Street along Whiskey Row.

Angel’s Envy opened its doors in 2016 in downtown Louisville and now you have the opportunity experience the first full-production urban distillery on Main Street along Whiskey Row.

Located at 500 E. Main Street in Louisville, Kentucky is the Angel’s Envy Distillery. The building was constructed in 1902 and was originally occupied by The American Elevator & Machine Co.  On July 9, 2013 it began its transformation into the Angel’s Envy Distillery.  After three years of hard work and dedication, the distillery opened to the public on November 19, 2016, offering a variety of tours, cocktail classes and special events.

Angel’s Envy began as a family business. The distillery was the brain-child of Wes Henderson and his father, famed Master Distiller Lincoln Henderson. Wes’ sons, are also an integral part of the family business.  Kyle, serves as the Production Manager and Andrew, Lead Distillery Operator.  Angel’s Envy whiskeys are unique in that they are all cask finished.  This means that after aging in a new charred oak container, as is required for bourbon and rye, the spirit then spends additional time in port, rum, or other previously used barrels. This method allows the whiskey to acquire additional unique flavors, and thus sets Angel’s Envy apart from other Kentucky distilleries since all of their spirits are made in this fashion.

Two different tours are offered at Angel's Envy (as of January 2022). The Welcome Tour takes visitors inside the distillery cathedral along the second floor focusing on fermentation and distillation. The Signature Tour dives more in depth into the distilling and production process from start to finish covering the entire distillery. On our visit we took the Signature Tour.
