The hue for this ultra-premium rum hailing from the Dominican Republic is composed of magnificent shades of amber, red and ochre developed over time, due to eighteen years of ageing in the Solera system. It releases a range of aromas, from vanilla to dried apricot, along with subtle notes of cherry and the dark smoothness of molasses. Its palate provide a variety of rich and complex flavors, including the depth of vanilla, softness of molasses and caramel, and red fruits and aged oak on the finish. Enjoy it neat in a Cognac glass, or on the rocks, to best appreciate its sophisticated and alluring character.
About the Producer
Matusalem & Company was founded by brothers Benjamin and Eduardo Camp, who left Spain and settled in Cuba to launch a rum distillery. In 1872, the Camp brothers, along with their partner Evaristo Alvarez, established the Matusalem brand in Santiago de Cuba, bringing with them their knowledge and expertise in the Solera system of blending and distillation used in making Spanish brandy. (The name "Matusalem" is Spanish for Methuselah, the Old Testament patriarch said to have lived for 969 years, and it was chosen as a reference to the Solera aging process used in producing the brand.) In 1956, under Castro's regime, the Alvarez family left Cuba, and the brand became fractured and neglected until 1995, when a settlement resulted in control by Claudio Alvarez. The brand was re-launched in 2002, and today, Matusalem Rum is owned and managed by Proximo spirits, and produced in the Dominican Republic. Its master blenders are all descendants of the original founders, and experts in the centuries old technique of Solera blending that is a signature of the house.
