Reserva de la Familia Extra Añejo is the award-winning pinnacle of the Jose Cuervo family of tequilas. The finest 10–12-year-old agaves are hand-selected, and only the most flavorful inner portion of the agave’s heart is used to make this 100% Blue Agave Extra Añejo Tequila.

The process of crafting such a luxury tequila begins around a full decade before the liquid ever reaches your glass, with the planting of 100% blue agave in the estate’s richest volcanic soils.

Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia was introduced in 1995 to celebrate the 200-year anniversary as the world's leading producer of tequila. Each bottle is handmade, numbered, dated and sealed in wax. Wood Painted Box Change models.

For 27 years, Jose Cuervo has commissioned an internationally recognized artist with roots in Mexico to create the design for its Reserva de la Familia Extra Añejo collector’s box. Results have borne intricate and striking works of art, making it perfect for every collector who appreciates artistry and a well-crafted, high end tequila.

This year, award-winning Mexican artist Gonzalo Lebrija has been chosen as the designer for the 2022 edition of Reserva de la Familia Extra Añejo box. Lebrija’s design, called “the glazes,” highlights the numerous colors and shapes that define the agave landscape throughout the day. The result is a visually arresting pattern that captures the true essence of the agave fields.

While Platino is unaged, Reserva de la Familia Reposado and Extra-Añejo garner their complex taste as a result of elaborate aging processes. After resting in barrels of French and American Oak the liquids are expertly blended by Alex Coronado, our Master Distiller.

About the Producer

In 1795, Jose María Guadalupe de Cuervo began selling the very first Vino Mezcal de Tequila de Jose Cuervo after receiving the first official charter from the King of Spain to produce tequila commercially. Cuervo has been producing tequila at La Rojeña, the oldest active distillery in Latin America, ever since.

Jose Cuervo has been making tequila for over 250 years with the same experience, craftsmanship, and recipes that have been handed down generation through generation. Scroll down to explore key moments in the brand's rich history.

In 1758, José Antonio de Cuervo y Valdés was given a writ of land ownership by King Fernand VI to plant agave on his lands for producing tequila.

King Carlos IV issued a royal decree in Spain granting Jose Maria Guadalupe Cuervo y Montana the first license to produce and distribute tequila. Jose Cuervo was the first tequila brand to bottle tequila individually, making it easier to transport the tequila to meet booming demand in Mexico and across the border.

Just like Champagne can only be made in France, or Scotch can only be made in Scotland, as of 1974, in order for a spirit to be called "tequila" it had to be made in certain states of Mexico.

Today, José Cuervo is still the number one tequila in the world.
