Product Details

The Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve is a non-age statement single malt scotch whisky with a bold, tropical twist and selectively finished in Caribbean Rum Barrels.

Intensely smooth and well balanced. It features the sweet and tropical fruit flavor notes of banana, mango starfruit, and papaya. To create whisky with a tropical feel, the makers finished a portion of the whisky in barrels that previously held Caribbean rum. That means a portion of the liquid that went into the final mix was rum cask-finished, but not the final whisky.

Glenlivet whiskies, from Speyside, Scotland are known for is smooth texture. The mineral-rich water that comes from Josie’s Well helps form the flavors during mashing and fermentation, whilst the specific height and width of the copper stills add a delicate yet complex character to all their whiskies.

Cask: Oak barrel, selectively finished in barrels that previously held Caribbean Rum

Flavor: Bold, smooth, and tropical. Rich caramel toffee notes, followed by flavors of tropical fruit

Nose: Sweet notes of pear and red apple meet a fabulous tropical twist of ripe bananas in syrup Finish: Well balanced and exceptionally smooth. You can really taste the rum on this one.

The nose is not quite as distinctive, offering notes of fresh cereal, some barrel char, and a thick layer of spice — though this does not come across as particularly tropical. While brown sugar notes evoke sweetness, they are dulled by the influence of the malt and the barrel. The palate is quite rummy, with a strong butterscotch note, plus elements of coconut, tiki spices, and honey grahams. There is a light lemon influence, layered atop a significant base of grainy malt — this is a young whiskey, but it is not too young.

The finish is quite sweet and buttery, with lingering honey notes, some cloves, and cinnamon.

About the Producer

During the early 19th century, illegal distilleries were commonplace throughout the Speyside region of Scotland. In 1823, however, Alexander Gordon pushed the Excise Act of 1823 through Parliament. The Excise Act allowed illegal distillers throughout Scotland to apply for and obtain licenses to legally distill spirits. In 1824, a businessman named George Smith applied for one of the first licenses in the Speyside region of Scotland and opened the doors to The Glenlivet Distillery. For nearly two centuries, The Glenlivet Distillery has been producing the “single malt whisky that started it all.”

Today Glenlivet is one of the "Big Three" Single Malt producers. Their Whiskies are Speyside and the water for the mash comes famously from"Josie’s Well" nearby. Glenlivet produces a wide variety of Single Malt aging and cask combinations, with the remaining Spirit an indispensable component in some of the most famous blends.

The Glenlivet distillery is a distillery near Ballindalloch in Moray, Scotland that produces single malt Scotch whisky. It is the oldest legal distillery in the parish of Glenlivet, and the production place of the Scottish whisky of the same name. It was founded in 1824 and has operated almost continuously since. The distillery remained open throughout the Great Depression and its only closure came during World War II. The Glenlivet distillery has grown in the post-war period to become one of the biggest single malt distilleries. The Glenlivet brand is the biggest selling single malt whisky in the United States and the second biggest selling single malt brand globally.

Today, the distillery is owned by the French alcoholic beverages company Pernod Ricard, which also oversees the distillery's production of 5,900,000 proof liters per annum. The majority of this – enough for 6 million bottles – is sold as The Glenlivet single malt, with the remainder being used in Pernod Ricard's blended whisky brands.
