Product Details

This whiskey from Kentucky has flavors of cocoa and vanilla, as well as the signature spice and white pepper notes that come from a whiskey with a high rye mash bill; it’s aged thirteen years in new, charred, American casks, and bottled at 95.6 proof. Until now, most rye whiskeys were four years old or younger, but this one breaks the mold and is one of the oldest available today. Spicy and spirited, it is great sipped neat, will become a little tamed with water or ice and makes a great Sazerac; it rated 5 Stars by F. Paul Pacult’s Spirit Journal.

About the Producer

Old Rip Van Winkle spirits are produced in Kentucky at the Buffalo Trace Distillery, a distillery named for the buffalo that carved paths through the wilderness that led America’s first pioneers westward. Situated on the banks of the Kentucky River, the site has had a working distillery since 1787, but the official Buffalo Trace production began in 1857. It obtained one of only four permits offered during Prohibition to maintain production for "medicinal purposes." Today, the distillery sits on a picturesque one hundred nineteen acres that was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2013, and produces several labels of Bourbon.
