Product Details
This Scotch from Islay is one of the most intense, smokiest single malt whiskies in the world. The peated barley used for it has up to twenty times as much exposure to peat smoke as typical Scotches, lending intense aromas of peat smoke, wood spice and Earl Grey tea. The palate shows peat, rich smoke and a salty tang, balanced by vanilla and honeyed oak. The finish lingers endlessly, with complex notes of caramel, fruits, peat and smoke. Double-distilled with a slow process providing round flavors and mellowness and aged for sixteen years, this spirit is the benchmark offering from the producer.About the Producer
Lagavulin Distillery is located on the banks of Lagavulin Bay on Scotland’s island of Islay, and is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. Distilling took place on the banks of Lagavulin Bay as early as 1742, and by the turn of the century, there were as many as ten illicit stills operating in the area. In 1816, John Johnson founded the first legal distillery on the site; after his death, Alexander Graham acquired Johnston's distillery, and eventually united the two distilleries together under the Lagavulin name. The distillery has always utilized the rich, peaty water that runs next to Lagavulin Bay.1 People Have Already Reviewed This Product
