Small batch and available in limited quantities, this Kentucky whiskey is made by using the previously fermented mash as a starter for the new mash. Aged in new American oak, with flavors of cinnamon, butter, almond and pepper, it scored 93 points from Wine Enthusiast in 2013.

" Ultimately I was won over by the spicy-yet-sweet, thin-yet-wild nature of this spirit. This could easily become a go-to whiskey when you're on the bourbon-rye fence."

Product Details

This small-batch Kentucky whiskey has flavors of rich cinnamon that evolve into butter and almond, with a peppery finish. It’s made with a unique mash bill, using the previously fermented mash as a starter for the new mash—similar to what is done to make sourdough bread. It’s aged in charred, new American oak barrels and bottled at 86 proof, and made a triumphant return to the market in 2012.

About the Producer

Michter’s Distillery’s history can be traced back to Swiss Mennonite farmers distilling rye whiskey in 1753 in Pennsylvania, and legend has it that Michter’s whiskey warmed the Revolutionaries at Valley Forge. The company considers its founding to be in 1850, when it was sold to Abraham Bomberger, but the distillery was forced to close in 1919 due to Prohibition. In the early 1990's, Joseph J. Magliocco teamed up with Richard Newman in an effort to resurrect the brand. It reopened in 2006 and currently has its production facilities in Kentucky. In 2012, Wine Enthusiast named them Distiller of the Year.
