Comprised of a blend of rums between 6 and 25 years old, this rum is matured in barrels that previously were used to Pedro Ximenez Sherry, and has an extra aging stage in French oak barrels that previously held Cognac. The spirit is made in the Guatemalan countryside from first-press sugarcane juice and is a perfectly balanced combination of sweetness, spice, fruit and spirit with flavors of dark cherry, date, prune and clove. It is best served neat, and it scored 96 points in 2015 from the Beverage Testing Institute.

Product Details

This ultra-premium aged Guatemalan rum is mahogany in the glass with intense red hints. The nose is very open, with an abundance of evolving aromas including mature toasted oak, burnt caramel, dry-roasted nuts, marzipan and orange peel, and a delicate floral note of honeysuckle in the background. The palate is wonderfully complex, with a satisfying balance of sweetness, fruit, spice and spirit. The long, smooth and sweet finish has dark cherry chocolate, dried fruit like dates and prunes, sweet oak spice, clove, vanilla and cinnamon, and lighter notes of dried mango and raspberry. Comprised of a blend of rums between six and twenty-five years old, the rum is matured in barrels that previously were used to age Pedro Ximenez Sherry, and has an extra aging stage in French oak barrels that previously held Cognac. It is best served neat, and it was named one of the Top 10 Spirits of the Year by Gayot.

Ron Zacapa rums are produced in the verdant Guatemalan countryside, with a production method that includes high altitude aging of its rums at 7,500 feet above sea level. Zacapa was launched in 1976 to celebrate the centennial of the founding of Zacapa, a town in eastern Guatemala.
